Here are 5 ways to store your Type 2 charging cable, from the cheapest to the most well-thought-out solution.
1. Hook on the wall (cheap, but a bad idea)
The classic approach: a large S-hook or plastic holder screwed to the wall, with the cable hung like a bike chain. Costs next to nothing, but comes with real downsides:
- The cable's weight constantly pulls on the connector = wear on internal contacts
- The connector hangs exposed, collecting dust and moisture
- Looks disorganised
- Bend stress on the cable at the hanging point

As a temporary solution for occasional use — if you only charge while on holiday or at a friend's place.
2. Cable box with auto-retract (overkill)
Large plastic boxes with automatic cable retraction. Marketed as a "premium" solution. They work, but they're overkill for most people:

- Only really necessary if you have 5+ metres of cable that's regularly rolled in and out

For three-phase 32A cables over 7.5 metres, which are hard to coil manually. For standard 16–22A cables, it's overkill.
3. Braided cable sleeve (cosmetic only)
Sleeved textile netting pulled over the cable to make it look "tidier". Protects against light abrasion, but:
- Doesn't solve the storage problem — the cable still ends up on the floor
- Traps moisture and dirt against the cable
- Hides any damage that may develop
When it makes sense:
If you have a new cable and want to keep it looking good. Best combined with a proper holder.
