The drill is the ultimate workhorse of your toolkit
It's the tool you reach for ten times a day — for drilling, driving screws, mixing paint, removing wheels, assembling furniture and everything in between. And because you use it so often, it constantly ends up tossed somewhere random, where it's neither easy to find nor convenient to store.
A good wall mount solves the problem in no time. Here's what you need to know to choose the right one.
What types of wall mounts for drills are there?
1. Classic wall hanger
The simplest design: a bracket or hook on the wall where the drill hangs nose-down. Takes up the least space and is quick to install. The downside is that the drill can swing back and forth if it gets bumped.
2. Drawer-mounted holster
The holder mounts under a shelf bracket or worktop edge so the drill hangs vertically nose-down. Handy because it doesn't take up wall space — but it does require a suitable edge to mount on.
3. Wall mount with battery pocket
The most sophisticated design: the wall mount holds the drill itself in an upright position with a pocket for a spare battery right alongside it. You have both the drill AND your spare battery ready to grab in one move.
4. Under-shelf holder
Designed to mount under an existing shelf or cabinet. The drill clicks into a spring mechanism — just press it in. Ideal if you have a small workshop where wall space is limited.
What does the wall mount need to fit?
A wall mount is not universal — it's designed specifically for the shape and size of your drill. The most popular drills are:
- DeWalt DCD791 / DCD796 — 18V XR hammer drill, popular with tradespeople
- Makita DDF482 / DDF483 — 18V LXT drill
- Bosch GSR 18V-50 / GSR 18V-60 — Professional 18V
- Milwaukee M18 FUEL — 18V brushless professional
- Parkside PABS / PSBSA — Lidl's hobby series
- Hilti SF 6H-A22 — Premium-grade professional
Every brand has its own handle geometry and width, so a mount designed for Makita won't fit a DeWalt. We have specific mounts for all of these — see our drill holder collection.
Materials guide: What should the mount be made of?
Custom-made PETG (recommended)
Our mounts are printed in PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) — a material with high impact resistance and temperature stability. PETG offers the following advantages:
- Stands up to daily use and vibration
- Doesn't become brittle over time like PLA
- Handles up to 70°C — important in an unheated garage in summer
- Made in our own workshop — you support local production
Steel
Classic steel mounts are strong but have two drawbacks: they scratch the drill's housing and they're not specifically shaped for modern cordless tools. Compared to precision custom-made mounts, steel variants are often more generic and less secure.
Plastic (injection-moulded)
Standard plastic mounts from hardware stores are often too thin and snap after a year or two. On top of that, they're typically only available for the most common brands — rare models are hard to find coverage for.
Installation: 3 simple steps
- Find the right position — Measure 30–40 cm above a work surface so the drill is easy to hang up and take down. Not too high (hard to reach), not too low (you'll knock into it)
- Mark the holes — Hold the mount against the wall, use a level to make sure it's straight, then mark with a pencil through the pre-drilled holes
- Drill and screw — Drill pilot holes (3mm for drywall, 6mm for masonry), insert wall plugs (for masonry) or drive screws directly in (for studs), then screw the mount in place
Screws are not included as standard — you'll need 4×40mm or 4×50mm chipboard screws depending on your wall type.
Pro tip: Build a complete workshop wall system
Instead of mounting a single bracket in isolation, plan your entire workshop wall in one go. Here's a typical setup that works well:
- Top row — Rarely used tools (jigsaw, impact wrench, etc.)
- Middle row (eye level) — Daily use (drill, cordless screwdriver)
- Bottom row — Heavy items (angle grinder, circular saw)
- Between each row — Batteries and chargers
This gives you a natural workflow when you pick up and put back your tools.
